Nicholson eager to get going

Torquay United defender Kevin Nicholson is eagerly anticipating the start of the new campaign, despite enduring one of his longest seasons.

The 27-year-old linked up with the England 'C' team in the Four Nations Championship as well as a trip to the Caribbean after the Gulls' gruelling promotion chasing campaign last term.

In fact, England's 2-0 win over Barbados was the 64th game of the 2007-2008 season for Nicholson.

The tiredness has not affected the defender's enthusiasm though, as he maintains he is ready to start again.

He told This Is South Devon: "But with the success of the team, that sort of thing comes along.

"If I'd had the same break as the other lads, I might have planned things differently.

"But I basically had two-and-a-half weeks of complete rest when I got home, and I've done a few runs since then.

"I want to forget about last year now.

"I'll take all the good things and try to learn from the bad, and the same goes for the whole team.

"We're all fresh and ready to start again, even the running in training!

"You start from nothing every season, and we're all looking forward to the new challenge."

Meanwhile, Gulls boss Paul Buckle is delighted with his new signings.

"There is more experience in the squad this time, and it is well-balanced," he said.

"I took a lot of time in selecting the new players, and in finding out everything I needed to know about them.

"I'm delighted with the players already here, and I'm sure I am going to have to hold these players back during pre-season.
