Carayol completes Gulls move

Torquay United have completed the signing of MK Dons midfielder Mustapha Carayol on a two year contract.

He joined Crawley on loan last season and became a regular part of their line-up including both games against United scoring two goals along the way.

Carayol spent last season on loan at Crawley Town where he became a regular starter and played against the Gulls twice, finding the back of the net the same amount of times.

Gulls boss Paul Buckle told the club's official website: "Mustapha is someone who played very well against us last year, he has come from a League 1 club and I know Paul Ince rated him highly. He is the right age for us and will give us pace and ability down the left side. I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"I didn't think we would get the opportunity to speak to him and sign him because there were other clubs involved, we are delighted to get him and he has shown a real passion to want to come and play for Torquay United, I had spoken to several people about his character, including Tyrone (Thompson) and my mind was made up very quickly that he was right for us.'

Carayol explained his decision: "To be honest I had a word with Paul and he is the whole reason why I have come down here. I have left a League 1 club so he had to have a big impression on me. I played against the club last season and I like the way they played and at my age I need to be playing regular football.

"There was plenty of interest from other clubs and my agent had calls last night from other people but the day I was told that Torquay wanted to sign me my mind was made up, I told my agent I needed to get out of London and get on with my football career and I feel this is the right club for me.

"I didn't want to end up as a fringe player at a League 1 or 2 club, I want to be involved. At Crawley last season I got into the team of the year and I want to go on to better things and get Torquay back up to League 2. I can guarantee the supporters that I will always be taking on players and working hard for my team so hopefully they will enjoy my performances."
