Histon 5-2 Ebbsfleet

Histon mounted a memorable comeback against Ebbsfleet United at the Glassworld Stadium on Thursday evening to lift themselves up to third position in the league standings.

The hosts made a flying start to the game and came close to claiming the lead in the opening minute but Jamie Barker's shot from close range smashed against the post.

But it was Ebbsfleet who broke the deadlock just two minutes later when Dean Pooley poked home George Purcell's inswinging corner from inside the six-yard box.

Liam Daish's side doubled their advantage in the 13th minute after Guiseppe Sole latched on to a long ball from goalkeeper Lance Cronin and fired into the bottom-right corner from inside the six-yard box.

However, that would be the last time the visitors found the back of the net, as Histon pulled one back just two minutes later thanks to a close range finish from Jack Midson.

Histon restored parity four minutes before the half-time interval when Jamie Barker fired a curling effort from 25 yards that flew past goalkeeper Lance Cronin and flew into the top-right corner.

The second half belonged to the Stutes as they made their home advantage count with another three goals.

Histon claimed the lead on the hour mark when Matthew Langston pounced on a weak clearance and chipped the ball over Cronin and into the bottom-left corner.

Ebbsfleet fell further behind in 72nd minute when Midson met Gareth Gwillim's free kick with a well-placed header to double his tally.

The comeback was completed in second half injury time when substitute Lee Roache unselfishly layed off the ball for Danny Wright and striker tapped home from 10 yards.
