Weymouth 0-2 Ebbsfleet Utd

Ebbsfleet United secured their Blue Square Premier status at the expense of relegation-threatened Weymouth with a 2-0 win at Wessex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Terras were on a 12-match winless run heading into this encounter and their lack of confidence was evident as the visitors got off to a flying start.

Liam Daish's men stormed to a two-goal lead after just eleven minutes of play as the hosts looked unable to cope with their explosive start.

Ebbsfleet broke the deadlock after four minutes when Ricky Shakes collected a pass from Guiseppe Sole and fired into the bottom-left corner.

They were certainly on the front foot and doubled their tally just six minutes later when Kezie Ibe headed home a Michael West cross from inside the six-yard box.

Weymouth created their first real chance in the 25th minute but Stephen Cooke failed to hit the target after collecting a floated cross from Stephen Reed.

On-loan defender Leon Crooks had a good chance to notch a third Ebbsfleet goal just before the break but sent his header way over from Stacy Long's corner.

The visitors were in control in the second period and had more chances to further extend their advantage.

However, the match didn't produce any more goals with both sides struggling to create any clear-cut goalscoring chances.

Sole's 70th minute free kick was saved well by Adam Legzdins and Weymouth had one chance for a consolation late in the game but Reed's 87th minute shot was saved by Cronin.

Daish told his club's website after the game: "The lads deserve a pat on the back and a beer amongst themselves.

"This is a real achievement for them in very difficult circumstances off and on the pitch. They've done a professional job. I'm very pleased and proud."

Weymouth bookings: Critchell, Hoyte.

Ebbsfleet bookings: Ricketts.
