Ebbsfleet United 1-0 Wrexham

Wrexham saw their losing streak extended to four matches on Tuesday evening after being edged out by Ebbsfleet United at Stonebridge Road.

The Dragons have failed to score a goal for five straight matches and their lack of proven goalscorers has ultimately cost them a play-off berth this season.

The first half was fairly uneventful as both sides struggled to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Ebbsfleet created their first real chance after nine minutes of play Michael Gash met Michael West's outswinging corner with a shot from 12 yards which was saved by Wrexham goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

They threatened from a corner again four minutes later but Paul McCarthy's headed effort flew wide of the right-hand post.

The Dragons went close through efforts from Ryan Flynn and Jefferson Louis but the half ended goalless as neither goalkeeper ever looked under any real pressure.

The hosts came flying out of the starting blocks after the break and won a free-kick outside the box in the 46th minute.

Guiseppe Sole stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and rifled a shot from 25 yards which flew just over the bar.

Wrexham took control of proceedings for the next 15 minutes with a sustained spell of pressure ending with Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Lance Cronin making a point-blank save from Michael Proctor's drilled left-footed shot.

They were made to rue that missed chance as the home side claimed the lead just one minute later.

Mark Ricketts shrugged off a lunging challenge from Ashley Westwood before unleashing a powerful shot from the edge of the box which flew in off the underside of the crossbar.

Wrexham boss Dean Saunders was left cursing his luck six minutes later as Darren Kempson's header from 10 yards was palmed away by the acrobatic Lance Cronin.

Ebbsfleet came close to doubling their advantage just minutes later but Kezie Ibe's low, curling shot was tipped around the post by Maxwell.

Daish's side should have scored in the 83rd minute after some glorious build-up play but Maxwell produced another good diving save to deny Jamie Stevens.

In the end, the solitary goal turned out to be enough for Daish's men to claim all three points.

Ebbsfleet bookings: Long, Duncan.

Wrexham bookings: Aiston, Anoruo, Williamson.
