Ebbsfleet 2-1 Mansfield

Liam Daish's Ebbsfleet United returned to the goalscoring trail with a 2-1 victory over high-flyers Mansfield Town at Stonebridge Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Fleet had failed to find the back of the net for eight straight games leading up to Saturday's clash, while the victory was also their first at Stonebridge Road this season.

The hosts got off to a flying start and claimed the lead after just three minutes when Ricky Shakes sent in an inviting cross from the right-hand flank and Brazilian striker Magno Vieira was on hand to volley home.

Mansfield were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute when Gavin Heeroo was adjudged to have handeled the ball in the area and Rob Duffy made no mistake the resulting spot kick to restore parity.

However, it was the Stags who had the last say as Peter Holmes collected a smart backheel pass from Vieira in the 56th minute before firing a low shot down the middle of goal.

Vieira was giving Mansfield's defenders a torrid time all afternoon and he earned Ebbsfleet a penalty after being tripped in the area by Andy Burgess.

But his effort from the penalty spot was saved by goalkeeper Alan Marriott, ensuring a tense finish to the encounter.

Ebbsfleet bookings: Bailey.

Mansfield bookings: Williams, Duffy, Burgess, Armstrong.

Ref: M Mclaughlin (England).

Att: 850.
