Oxford 4-2 Ebbsfleet

Oxford defeated lowly Ebbsfleet 4-2 on Saturday afternoon to stay five points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

James Constable and Alfie Potter scored a brace each with Magno Viera and Scott Ginty on target for Fleet.

Potter fired the first goal home after just four minutes after latching on to a Dannie Bulman through ball, leaving Lance Cronin with no chance.

The U's were two-up just five minutes later when Constable accepted a neat pass from Onome Sodje before slotting the ball under Cronin.

Vieira thought he had pulled a goal back with a header but Ryan Clarke denied him by pulling off a fine save.

Ebbsfleet improved at the start of the second half and Vieira found the target after connecting with an Ishmael Welsh cross on 57 minutes but the goal only spurred on the hosts and Potter chipped Cronin for his second goal of the match after 61 minutes.

Constable then added to his sides' lead in the 68th minute with an unstoppable shot from 12 yards.

The Fleet so nearly scored when Ricky Shakes found himself through on goal but he hit his shot wide from close range. And when Ginty curled his shot past Clarke with two minutes of the match remaining, it was a case of too little too late.
