Newman pens new Aldershot deal

Blue Square Premier champions Aldershot Town have confirmed that veteran Ricky Newman has agreed a new deal as a player-coach.

The Guildford-born midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal which will see him take charge of the reserve team next season.

Newman (37) has a wealth of experience in the Football League as well as non-league football more recently and manager Gary Waddock sees him as an important part of the club's future.

"I am delighted that Ricky has signed for next season," Waddock said.

"He proved a valuable member of the squad during the course of the season and is a model professional and a great example to the younger players.

"In addition to his playing role Ricky will also coach the reserve team next season. This is another important signing for the club as we look to the future."
