Mansfield hit by four-point penalty

Blue Square Premier outfit Mansfield Town have been docked four points after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their opening two games of the season.

The Stags put their case forward in a meeting at Blue Square Premier headquarters in Birmingham on Monday morning but their appeal was rejected.

Billy McEwan's side now find themselves in 15th place following the four-point deduction and to make matters worse, it has been revealed that the Stags face a second charge for fielding an ineligible player.

The signing of Aaron O'Connor from Grays has raised a few questions and Football Conference chiefs will be reviewing the details of his transfer and registration, with a further points deduction a possibility

A statement on Mansfield Town's official website reads as follows:

"Mansfield Town Football Club are extremely disappointed with the decision of the Football Conference today.

"Following the decision to deduct four points, the club will take time to consider our available options.

"A further statement will be made in due course."

"im not goin 2 go into the mansfield situation 2 much becoz im not 100% certain of wot has acculy happened but surely if they r that much of a big side then 4 points is easily retrievable. still feel a bit sorry for them, hopefully they can prove that it wont effect them infront of the setanta camera's 2nyt. torquay for lyf!! :)"

"take the 4 points on the chin get back out there and regain them through the games ahead think of this as a learning curve & show them nothing will stop you ."

"Bad decision , I Cant see as it is our fault to be honest as Aaron o Connor admitted he was wrong , aswell as Gray's chairman admitted Our club shouldnt be punished for a mistake and fault by Aarron.

Up the Stag's!!."
