A focused Gary Brabin
Cambridge United have revenge on their mind for Saturday's Blue Square Premier league fixture against Weymouth at home but before that, coach Gary Brabin has some pills to dish out to the team.
The flu virus has made it's presence felt in the squad with the likes of Danny Potter, Anthony Tonkin and Danny Brown being it's latest victims and all are doubtful of starting the game.
Brabin told Cambridge news: "We've had a bit of a flu epidemic. Danny Potter hasn't trained the last couple of days, Danny Brown hasn't been in all week and Anthony had a reaction on Tuesday.
"Tonks is a good honest lad and he wanted to play the other night, even though he didn't feel 100 per cent, but he's had to have a couple of days off.
"It's too soon to say whether they'll be okay, but we've just been working with the lads who are fit and able.
"I've had it for a few days as well, so it's just something that's going around and when you're training hard it does lower your immunity to illnesses."
With Tonkin not fit and his regular back-up at left-back, Brown, also sidelined, Jordan Collins could get the nod to start his first game of the season.
Similarly, Steven Drench is in line for his debut between the sticks, if Potter does not make it.
The wave of flu that has swept through the United squad has not stopped Brabin from pondering on revenge against Weymouth.
Weymouth held United to a 2-2 draw back in August with ten men, while former United player, Stephen Reed stopped Mark Beesley scoring in the final minute with a handball on the line that went un-noticed by the referee.
The coach said: "I remember we had Dan Gleeson and Felino (Jardim) going down with injuries and we had to put Mark Convery on when he wasn't fully fit, and in that last 20 minutes we hurt ourselves more than they hurt us.
"There was a lot of coverage about that goal in the Reading and Watford game a couple of weeks ago.
"I just wish we'd got as much coverage about that incident against Weymouth, which was as bad, if not worse.
"We should have won the game and I look back and see that was two points dropped.
"But we've got to rise above it and perform to the best of our ability tomorrow," concluded a determined Brabin.
