Fallon defends Stutes' long ball tactics

Histon manager Steve Fallon has lashed out at critics, claiming that other club manangers are jealous of his team's success.

The Stutes' boss reckons that opposition managers do not give his players the credit they deserve and that he is tired of his team being labelled a 'long-ball side'.

Fallon also suggests that the majority of rival clubs' supporters would love to be in his teams position.

"We get called a long-ball team, and when it's said in a bad way then it does annoy me and John Beck (the first-team coach)," Fallon told Cambridge News.

"It's something that will always follow John around because that was his way of playing 10 to 15 years ago.

"But it's certainly not the way we want to play now, and I'm always hearing losing managers say 'at least we tried to play the game in the right way' - it's just sour grapes.

"Managers say before games against us that they know it's going to be physical and they know what they'll be coming up against, and all those old chestnuts.

"People find it hard to praise a little village side - they think they've lost because of our style of play and they think we're nasty.

"But that couldn't be further from the truth and 99 per cent of supporters just want to see their team win."

Fallon also said that his team would continue to play football the way they knew how as they would take points over praise any day.

He added: "It all depends on the quality of the ball forward. We try to use the strengths of our wide players in the air and we can play from there - there is no set way to play football.

"It's been a great start for us. I've seen a few games on telly and I don't think we're far away from the big boys."
