Daryl Clare
Mansfield Town have revealed that striker Daryl Clare has made a permanent switch to fellow Blue Square Premier side Gateshead on a free transfer.
31-year-old Clare joined the Tynesiders on loan in October and was an instant hit, bagging nine goals in 13 appearances.
Clare returned to Field Mill earlier this month following the completion of his loan at Gateshead and informed manager David Holdsworth of his desire to leave the Stags.
Holdsworth told the club's official website: "For Daryl to tell us that he didn't want to pull on a Mansfield shirt is disappointing.
"Daryl and I have maintained a very good relationship, and I haven't seen this coming.
"He has trained with us in recent weeks and we have done everything we can from him.
"Given his reputation, both the Chairman and I tried everything to try and get him here.
"We tried to help rescue his career, but I can only deal with the facts, and those are that Daryl no longer wants to play for Mansfield Town.
"We gave him the opportunity to go out and get games and I feel we have got the raw end of the stick."
