Histon's teenage defender Callum Stewart has asked to be dropped from the first team following Saturday's disappointing 3-3 draw against Hayes & Yeading.
The Stutes looked shaky in defence and Stewart was at fault for Hayes & Yeading's first goal and was subsequently substituted at half time.
And Alan Lewer has revealed that Stewart apologised to his team-mates and asked to be dropped ahead of Tuesday night's match against Ebbsfleet United.
Lewer told Cambridge News: "Callum has got good character.
"He came in to the dressing room and apologised afterwards, but there was no need for him to do that.
"He doesn't have to apologise. He's young and these mistakes are part of the learning process.
"It's time now to pull him out of the fire, but he'll learn from this and go on to do very well."
