Cambridge confirm Pugh capture

Cambridge United have confirmed the signing of striker Andy Pugh for a fee of £15,000 from Blue Square Bet South outfit Welling United.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him contracted to the U's until 2014 and has been handed squad number 15.

Pugh was being tracked by a number of Football League clubs but U's boss Jez George has finally managed to secure the striker's signature after he recovered from a knee injury.

Commenting on his switch to Cambridge, Pugh told the club's official website: "I can't wait to get started, and I'm looking forward to playing full time football. I'm glad it's finally done.

"It's been well documented that this deal has dragging on for a while, but that's over now and I can't wait to start scoring goals for Cambridge United.

"The way the club have handled the whole situation has been very professional from start to finish.

"Jez has been very committed to bringing me here and I would like to thank Jez and the board for their patience.

"I want to repay their faith in me on the pitch."

George is delighted to have finally secure the services of Pugh and was full of praise for the youngster.

He said: "Andy is a player that we have watched this season on several occasions and we feel that he will improve our squad.

"He is young, talented, keen to develop and ambitious to play higher up the leagues. Andy has a fantastic goal scoring record over the last two years. He has a superb attitude and tremendous work ethic.

"He is good technically, shows intelligent movement and is a natural finisher."
