Obeng committed to Dragons cause

Wrexham defender Curtis Obeng is flattered at the reported interest from several high-profile suitors, but he insisted the Racecourse Ground is the place he needs to be right now.

The 22-year-old's recent efforts for the Dragons have not only earned the praise and admiration of boss Andy Morrell and fellow team-mates, but the likes of Swansea City, Charlton Athletic and Brighton.

Despite the speculation, the promising right-back reckons the chance to play in the top-flight will come at some in his future and hopefully with the Red Dragons.

"I'm under contract to Wrexham for another 12 months and I fully intend to see it through," Obeng told the Daily Post.

"There's a job to do here in trying to win promotion back to the Football League and I want to play a full part in that.

"Of course it's nice to hear big clubs have shown an interest in you, but that won't distract me from what I still want to achieve with Wrexham."

"I still have hopes of playing at the top standard, and I think some of the current Wrexham squad are capable of that too, but to get there will involve a lot of hard work and I intend to keep doing what I'm doing at Wrexham and see where it takes me."

Meanwhile, Obeng is eager to make help right Wrexham's imperious Blue Square Bet Premier campaign following their 1-0 defeat at Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.

The ended the Dragons' 16-game undefeated domestic run as well as having cost them top spot in the standings.

"It was a bit of a blow, but it had been a long time since we'd lost a game and the run had to end some time," Obeng added.

"We didn't play particularly well, but even then we still had a chance to get something out of the game only for us missing that late penalty.

"It was disappointing, but we're not too despondent because we're all pleased how well we've been doing this season.

"It's important now we focus on bouncing back against Bath City on Saturday. We've got a good home record and we know if we put in a good performance we can pick up three points."
