Moss Rose

Macclesfield 2-1 Lincoln City

Macclesfield Town came from behind to defeat Lincoln City 2-1 in the Blue Square Bet Premier at Moss Rose on Wednesday evening.

Alan Power opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 23 minutes with Scott Garner's own goal leveling up matters two minutes after the restart.

Matthew Barnes-Homer then netted his 21st goal of the season after 55 minutes to hand his side all three points.

The result leaves the Silkmen in seventh place with 51 points, with the Imps in a lowly 19th place with 37 points.

Just minutes after Mo Fofana had City's first real chance of the match with a good turn and shot, Power fired home from the penalty spot after Pablo Mills had upended Adam Smith in the box.

The hosts responded positively with John Paul Kissock forcing a good save out of Paul Farman from the edge of the area.

Ryan Jackson then came close to an equaliser as the half wore down with his effort deflected away from goal off the shoulder of Andrew Boyce.

But the goal they were pressing for duly arrived at the start of the second half, albeit somewhat fortuitously as Garner headed past Farman when the keeper looked set to make an easy save from a goal-bound Amari Morgan-Smith header.

Jackson then fired in a low cross that Barnes-Homer did well to connect to, to put his side ahead for the first time in the match.

Waide Fairhurst hit the side netting as the hosts looked to extend their lead while Power and Fairhurst both hit efforts wide late on.

Adam Smith, though, came excruciatingly close to netting an equaliser with a volley in the dying minutes but he failed to keep his effort down.

Macclesfield bookings: Murtagh, Fairhurst.

Lincoln bookings: Boyce, Power.

Ref: Whiteley.
