Simpson intends to strengthen

Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson will look to further strengthen his side following the arrival of three players at the club already.

Simpson has only been in charge of the struggling Imps for just over a week but has added to his defence in the form of Nat Brown and Tony Diagne, both on loan from Macclesfield, as well as versatile youngster Todd Jordan.

Now the former Silkmen manager intends to bolster his midfield and strikeforce as the Lincolnshire outfit looks to avoid relegation from the Blue Square Bet Premier.

He told This is Lincolnshire: "We had to start at the back, and then we will look at other areas in the team.

"I drove to Oldham on Monday night and I was on the road again on Tuesday to have a look.

"I'd be delighted if I did not have to do it, but we are in a situation where we are conceding two goals and only scoring one.

"I brought in two defenders straight away and that has helped. Now it is a case of doing a bit more wheeling and dealing to help us."

On Jordan, whom he signed from the Northern Counties East League, Simpson admitted that while it was a gamble to add the 21-year-old to his squad, it was a risk he was willing to take.

He added: "Todd is a player I've been keeping an eye on for some time and while it could well be a gamble bringing him in, he has joined us on little money so it's a gamble well worth taking.

"He can play in a number of positions and has a good left foot, which is always a bonus. This is a chance for him to step up a level and stake a claim."
