Elliot and Hughes extend Cambridge deals

Cambridge United top scorer Tom Elliot and fellow frontman Liam Hughes have both extended their contracts until the summer of 2015.

Former Stockport striker Elliot has found the back of the net 13 times in 23 league appearances for the U's this season.

Having only signed a two-year deal last summer, the 23-year old has shown his commitment to the club by extending his stay with more than a year left to run.

"He's the biggest asset this football club has," U's head coach Richard Money told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"It means we won't be in a position next January where the vultures are circling. He wants to stay and be part of what we're doing.

"We want to become the Blue Square Bet Premier equivalent of Everton, in that we compete with limited resources, but play in a way that gives you a chance to compete."

Meanwhile, Money has also added Charlton goalkeeper Nick Pope to his squad on a one-month loan deal.

The 20-year old has not yet made a first-team appearance for the Addicks since joining two seasons ago, but is highly rated by the staff at the Valley.

Pope will be eligible for the game against Woking on Saturday.
