Workington may take on Aussie

Workington are to give Austrailian midfielder Chris Hayton a trial run with a view of a possible permanent move.

Workington manager Darren Edmondson has extented an invitation to the 20-year-old in order for him to commence training with the club, and if he impresses there might just be a permanent deal on the cards for the Aussie.

Hayton, who played in a similar league in his home country, approached Edmondson with hope of securing a place within the team.

"Chris's agent got in touch with me and we arranged for him to join up with the rest of the lads at training," Edmondson told the News and Star.

"We will run the rule over him and see if he can improve our squad.

"It is likely that he will be given a couple of reserve team fixtures to show us what he is capable of."

Edmondson is also hopeful of securing the services of Shaun Vipond, from Carlisle United, whose loan spell came to and end last week.

Edmondson has discussed the proposed move for Vipond with Carlisle caretaker boss Greg Abbott earlier in the week.

"The talk with Greg went well and he is happy for us to have Shaun. The decision is now up to him and I will be talking to him this week to see what he wants to do," Edmondson concluded.
