Stevenage Borough face Cambridge United at Broadhall Way on Saturday
Saturday 22nd September, 2007
Stevenage Borough v Cambridge United
Prices correct at time of writing (3pm, Wednesday 19th September, 2007).
Home 4/6 Draw 12/5 Away 7/2
Cambridge had a good win against Altrincham in midweek so I think I'd rather take Stevenage on at the 4/6 price. I think Cambridge can get a point here at 12/5. Stevenage are top and are playing pretty well and at 4/6 they'll have their supporters, but I'm going to go for Cambridge to sneak a point and it's 12/5 the draw for me.
Verdict: Draw
Aldershot Town v Farsley Celtic
Home 8/15 Draw 13/5 Away 9/2
If you're looking for a banker then look no further than Aldershot, who not only beat York on Tuesday night but also did the business in a thriller at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford last weekend. Meanwhile, Farsley Celtic were well beaten by Stevenage, who are themselves going well, in midweek (4-0) and Farsley are in 19th place at the moment. Because of what is happening below them relegation isn't something that Farsley are staring in the face, as there are four teams down at the bottom who haven't won a game yet this season, those being Altrincham, Droylsden, Stafford and Northwich. Aldershot for me, look banker material. They beat York 2-0 in midweek and I reckon there'll be a similar scoreline here on Saturday.
Verdict: Home win
Altrincham v Droylsden
Home 5/4 Draw 9/4 Away 7/4
Most people know I'm an Altrincham fan and this is such a big game for them because as I mentioned there are four teams - Altrincham, Droylsden, Stafford and Northwich - who, after 10 games, have not won a game between them and are looking detached from the rest of the bunch. Even York, who are fifth from bottom, have only won one game. Graham Heathcote's Altrincham side have actually played better than their results suggest but on Saturday nothing less than three points will satisfy the fans. Altrincham haven't managed a point at home this season but I'm going to go for Altrincham to win this one at 5/4. It's such a big game for the club and if they are going to have any chance of staying in the Blue Square Premier they've got to be winning. Altrincham for me.
Verdict: Home win
Burton Albion v Woking
Home 4/6 Draw 12/5 Away 7/2
Woking are 18th and lost a thrilling match against Crawley 5-3 on Tuesday after putting in a good home performance against Altrincham. But it's a home win for me on this one at 4/6. Burton had a decent 1-1 draw against Ebbsfleet on Tuesday and they're in fifth place. I think at home Burton are going to be hard to beat. Albion, under Nigel Clough, are well organised and I think they are going to be at least in the play-offs this season.
Verdict: Home win
Crawley Town v Forest Green Rovers
Home 11/10 Draw 11/5 Away 21/10
Forest Green are a hard side to assess because they were very disappointing against Salisbury but then they bounced back in midweek and played really well against Exeter (3-3). Another draw here I could see easily and I think 11/5 is a fair price. Crawley, in seventh place, have done really well this season and certainly manager Steve Evans must be happy with what he saw in a 5-3 win against Woking. Seventh place is a great reward for the attractive football that Crawley have been playing. Forest Green are in and out and I don't think they are going to lose. I'm going for the draw at 11/5.
Verdict: Draw
Exeter City v Ebbsfleet United
Home 4/5 Draw 9/4 Away 3/1
Exeter will be looking to try and win here because it was really a case of points thrown away having been two in front in that match against Forest Green. Exeter are in eighth place at the moment. Ebbsfleet had a decent 1-1 draw against Burton in midweek but it's a home win for me. I'm going to got for Exeter to get the points and at 4/5 I think they're a fair price to do so.
Verdict: Home win
Grays Athletic v York City
Home 8/11 Draw 9/4 Away 10/3
I think the big disappointment of the season so far has got to be York, who have had only one win so far this season and are fifth from bottom. If they were to slip up against Grays in this game it really would make it a tough task for them to get up towards the play-off area, which is what their supporters would have hoped for. I'm going for a draw at 9/4 in this match.
Verdict: Draw
Halifax Town v Rushden & Diamonds
Home 11/10 Draw 11/5 Away 21/10
Halifax beat managerless Northwich 3-1 in midweek and will go into this one full of confidence. The Shaymen are now in the top half of the Blue Square Premier, while Rushden are struggling down in sixteenth place. Diamonds enjoyed a 2-1 win at Weymouth in midweek and are better on the road. Halifax are unbeaten at home and the draw seems the value at 11/5.
Verdict: Draw
Kidderminster Harriers v Torquay United
Home 13/8 Draw 11/5 Away 11/8
This looks like a draw at 11/5. Torquay have done quite well and that was a real thriller and a big three points they picked up against Histon in midweek, when Torquay won 5-4. I think Torquay will do well this season and Kidderminster are hard to beat at home but when you don't fancy one, the draw is the bet at 11/5.
Verdict: Draw
Salisbury City v Northwich Victoria
Home 1/2 Draw 13/5 Away 5/1
Northwich had another defeat in midweek and I'm not expecting them to get anything on the road here against Salisbury, who themselves beat another relegation-threatened side in Stafford, 1-0 in midweek. It's been a good week for Salisbury and they're on a good run so I think Salisbury will win this one. You're not going to get rich at 1/2 but it's one for your accumulator. Salisbury for me.
Verdict: Home win
Weymouth v Stafford Rangers
Home 8/13 Draw 12/5 Away 4/1
I can't see Stafford winning here, despite the fact Rangers have now got two players, 19-year-old goalkeeper Scott Loach and Cedric Avinel, on loan from Watford. I think the 8/13 on Weymouth is a good bet and I fancy them to do the business. I think they're one of the best bets of the weekend.
Verdict: Home win
