Torquay United take on Altrincham at Plainmoor on Sunday

Gulls to clip Robins' wings

Sunday December 9, 2007

Torquay United v Altrincham (Kick-off 14.00)

Prices correct at time of writing (3.30pm, Wednesday December 5, 2007).

Home 3/10 Draw 7/2 Away 7/1

Altrincham haven't done too badly this season against the stronger teams away from home and with five draws on the road they're more than capable of getting a point at Plainmoor on Sunday. However, the formbook says this will be a Torquay win. It's a big ask to expect Altrincham to get something from the game but I do think the Cheshire side can make the Gulls work hard for a narrow victory. The betting strategy worked when Altrincham played Stevenage earlier this season. We went for the draw at half-time, Stevenage full-time. Looking back at that game, Altrincham conceded two soft goals and they could have got something from the match but Stevenage were by far the better side. It could be a similar game on Sunday. This game is not televised and the reason for it being moved is quite unbelievable from my point of view. Apparently Devon police couldn't provide cover for both this game and the Plymouth-Bristol City match on the same day. Maybe that decision just delays the inevitable for Altrincham.

Verdict: Home win

Best Bet: Torquay 1-0 13/2
