Red Dragons set to roar

Friday January 16, 2009

Torquay United v Wrexham (19.45, Live on Setanta 1)

Prices correct at time of writing (2pm, Wednesday January 14, 2009).

Home evens Draw 23/10 Away 5/2

Both Torquay and Wrexham harbour a return to the Football League and the Gulls have lost just three of their last 26 games in all competitions, while the Red Dragons have hit some form under Dean Saunders and have lost just one of their last seven matches. Torquay are in the final play-off place at the moment and are 16 points behind leaders Burton but have two games in hand. Wrexham have four games in hand on Albion.

I think 5/2 is a very tempting price on Wrexham but 23/10 on the draw is the obvious punt.

Torquay have an FA Cup fourth-round tie at home to Championship side Coventry City to look forward to next week. Wrexham have had a busy week with plenty of traveling - they won 2-1 at Basingstoke Town in midweek in the FA Trophy second round. Logic tells me that this will be a tight match.

I think 5/2 is a really tempting price along with the draw no bet because I don't think Wrexham are going to lose this game. If they are going to be serious challengers for one of the play-off places or possibly to chase Burton for automatic promotion then they'll be looking for all three points.

Verdict: Away win

Best Bet:

Half-time / Full-time Draw / Wrexham 7/1
