Diamonds' captain Jamie Stuart returns

Rushden & Diamonds v Gateshead

Rushden & Diamonds host Gateshead at Irthlingborough for the first time in over twelve years as they look to continue their march up the Blue Square Premier table.

Fireworks will not be expected at Nene Park, the last five games involving the Diamonds have featured no more than one goal each. The reverse between the two sides back in September ended in a goalless draw while Gateshead themselves have only managed one goal in their last three outings.

Gateshead, however, are involved in a serious relegation scrap and will be more than happy with a 0-0 draw and valuable point.

"They have a very good defensive record but the onus is on them to attack us and that should leave holes and space that we can exploit," commented Tynsiders' boss Ian Bogie to the club's official website.

A big blow to the Tynesiders this week was captain Kris Gate being ruled out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury. Defender James Curtis and midfielder enforcer Andy Ferrell are unavailable due to suspension. Daryl Clare returns to Nene park after having made twelve appearances for the Diamonds last season.

Home boss Justin Edinburgh has a welcome headache with his side fresh off two consecutive away wins. Paul Terry and captain Jamie Stuart return from suspension and Lee Tomlin's possible return to full fitness will boost the squad, leaving Edinburgh with a selection poser.

"We will have Stuart and Terry back so there are going to be tough decisions to make after two excellent away results," the Diamonds coach told the Gateshead club website.

"I have always said I would rather have it that way instead of the team picking itself.

"Whoever is left out will realise it's not about them as individuals. The whole team have taken us this far."
