Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

AFC Wimbledon maintained the pressure on league leaders Chelmsford City with a massive victory over mid-table Braintree Town on Saturday afternoon.

AFC Wimbledon 5-1 Braintree Town

AFC Wimbledon completely demolished Braintree Town at Kingsmeadow and fired a stern warning to league leaders Chelmsford.

Jon Main netted a fine treble for the hosts, but it was midfielder Sam Hatton who opened the scoring in the 6th minute.

The hat-trick hero then started his romp in the 30th minute, before adding his second just seven minutes later.

Danny Hockton pulled a goal back for the visitors on the 41-minute mark, but going into the half-time break, it was just a question of how large the scoreline would be by the end of the game.

Main completed his heroics for the night in the 47th minute, before Dwane Lee capped off the rout in the 86th minute.

The Dons still trail Chelmsford by three points, but are looking increasingly dangerous.

Bath City 1-0 St Albans

Bath City moved closer to a play-off place after being gifted a victory at Twerton Park.

St Albans were on the back foot from the 1st minute of the game as defender Adam Everitt bungled the ball into his own net.

That was all the Romans needed to secure the three points as neither side were able to add to the scoreline.

The Saints will rue their slip up, which has dampened their chances of inching towards a top-five spot.

Bishop's Stortford 2-0 Maidenhead Utd

Bishop's Stortford earned themselves some breathing room in the bottom half on the table with a morale-boosting win against Maidenhead United at Woodside Park.

21-year-old attacker Peter Dean opened the home side's account with a 42nd minute effort and Orlando Smith doubled their tally when he found the back of the net in the 49th minute.

Bognor Regis Town 1-1 Hayes & Yeading

Relegation-threatened Bognor Regis Town have every reason to be optimistic after nearly edging out Hayes & Yeading at Nyewood Lane on Saturday.

The Rocks broke the deadlock through defender Sam Pearce's 42nd minute penalty kick and maintained their slender advantage heading into the half-time break.

However, Hayes & Yeading soldiered on in the second period and finally drew level in the 85th minute thanks to forward Josh Scott.

Bromley 1-0 Dorchester

Dorchester Town slipped down to 15th in the Blue Square South on Saturday after being edged out by Bromley at the Courage Stadium.

Bromley striker Warren McBean scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute and it turned out to be enough as the Magpies were unable to find a reply.

Chelmsford 2-0 Welling

Chelmsford City maintained their position at the top of the Blue Square South table with a controlled performance against Welling United at Melbourne Stadium.

Midfielder Ollie Berquez gave the hosts the lead with a 24th minute goal and fellow midfield man Spencer Knight doubled their tally with a 62nd minute effort.

The Clarets may have held onto their position at the top but will be feeling the pressure from second-placed AFC Wimbledon, who trail Chelmsford by three points, with a game in hand.

Eastleigh 1-3 Team Bath

Team Bath moved up to fifth position on Saturday after recording a massive win over fellow promotion hopefuls Eastleigh at Silverlake Stadium.

The first period looked to be heading for a stalemate but the visitors claimed the lead through midfielder Ben Thompson just two minutes before the half-time break.

Instead of sitting back, Team Bath pushed forward straight from the kick-off and doubled their tally two minutes later thanks to Japanese playmaker Takumi Ake.

Matt Cooper's 72nd minute goal gave his side a comfortable three-goal cushion, rendering striker Jonny Dixon's 89th minute finish nothing more than a consolation.

Hampton & Richmond 3-1 Thurrock

Hampton & Richmond Borough maintained their play-off aspirations with a fairly comfortable victory over relegation-threatened Thurrock at Beveree Stadium.

The home side claimed the lead in the 12 minute when Thurrock midfielder Craig Hughes put the ball in his own net.

Thurrock fought on valiantly and drew level in the 51st minute through Sam Lechmere but the parity was short-lived as the Beavers reclaimed the lead thanks to midfielder Francis Quarm's 53rd minute finish.

The hosts continued to push forward in search of a third goal and got what they were looking for when midfielder Shaun Macauley fired in a 75th minute effort.

Newport County 3-0 Basingstoke

Newport County shot up to 14th position in the Blue Square South standings on Saturday with a comfortable win against strugglers Basingstoke Town at Spytty Park.

The Exiles opened their account just before the half-time break through on-loan Salisbury defender Aaron Cook and doubled their tally when midfielder Danny Rose fired in a 63rd minute effort.

Craig Reid completed the rout in the 83rd minute to put the result beyond the reach of the visiting side.

Weston-super-Mare 3-1 Fisher Athletic

Worcester 2-2 Havant and Waterlooville

Worcester City missed out on the chance to break into the top half of the Blue Square South table after being held to a draw by Havant & Waterlooville at St George's Lane.

The home side opened the scoring through midfielder Matt Todd in the 14th minute but the Hawks drew level thanks to Gary Holloway's 40th minute effort.

Striker Marco Addagio restored Worcester's slender lead in the 63rd minute and the hosts looked to be heading for a morale-boosting victory with the minutes running down on the clock.

However, Shaun Gale's side didn't let their heads drop and finally drew level when midfielder Jack Compton netted with an injury-time effort.
