Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

AFC Wimbledon extended their lead at the top of the Blue Square South table after a 3-1 victory over Chelmsford City at Kingsmeadow on Saturday afternoon.

AFC Wimbledon 3-1 Chelmsford

Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon extended their lead at the summit of the table to three points with the help of brace from striker Jon Main.

Main opened the scoring after 18 minutes and added to his account again in the 28th minute to give his side a comfortable two-goal cushion.

The hosts maintained their lead going into the half-time break but saw their advantage reduced when Chelmsford midfielder Kevin James found the back of the net in the 64th minute.

With the match heading for a tense finish the Dons put the result beyond doubt thanks to midfielder Tom Davis.

Basingstoke 1-1 Hayes & Yeading

Hayes & Yeading lost ground on the play-off race after being held to stalemate by Basingstoke Town at the Camrose Ground on Saturday.

The Dragons broke the deadlock after 15 minutes through on-loan Reading striker Kelvin Bossman and held on to their slender advantage heading into the break.

The visitors restored parity just two minutes after the half-time break thanks to midfielder James Mulley but were unable to fashion a winning goal in the remainder of the half.

Bath City 2-1 Newport County

Bath City moved up to eighth place in the Blue Square South standings after edging out Newport County at Twerton Park.

The Romans got off to a flying start with forward Darren Edwards netting the opening goal after just six minutes of play.

However, the hosts found it tough going after Coventry-born striker Craig Reid restored parity with a 47th minute finish.

The home side continued to push forward in a bid to reclaim the lead and were awarded for their attacking play when Chris Holland netted a dramatic winner in the 90th minute.

Braintree Town 1-1 Bognor Regis Town

Braintree Town remain in mid-table despite being held to a draw by rock-bottom Bognor Regis Town at Cressing Road Stadium.

In fact, it could be argued that the home side were quite fortunate to collect a point after it took a late second-half equaliser to level the scoreline.

The Rocks drew first blood when Jahson Downes' 18th minute effort rifled into the back of the net and looked like they might just hold on to record a morale-boosting victory.

However, it was not to be as Braintree striker Sean Marks popped up in the 87th minute to spare his side the blushes.

Bromley 0-2 Hampton & Richmond

Hampton & Richmond Borough reduced the gap on the league leaders with a comfortable victory against 10th placed Bromley at the Courage Stadium.

The visitors made a perfect start to the encounter with striker Lawrence Yaku opening the scoring after just three minutes of play.

The Beavers maintained their lead in the first period and made a flying start after the half-time break with another quick goal.

Forward Ian Hodges fired a shot into the back of the net in the 48th minute to give his side a solid cushion for the remainder of the match.

Dorchester 0-4 Eastleigh

Eastleigh fired a stark warning to their fellow promotion hopefuls with a massive win against managerless Dorchester Town at the Avenue Stadium.

Midfielder Anthony Riviere opened the visiting side's account in the 32nd minute and defender Aaron Martin doubled their lead just minutes before the half-time whistle.

Fellow defender Tom Jordan further extended his side's advantage three minutes after the restart and forward Matt Groves rounded off the scoring with a 77th minute goal.

The Spitfires remain in fourth place with a total of 50 points from 27 fixtures, while the Magpies slip down to 16th position with 29 points from 27 games.

Thurrock 2-1 Fisher Athletic

Thurrock boosted their hopes of surviving the drop after edging out fellow strugglers Fisher Athletic at Ship Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Fleet drew first blood after 25 minutes thanks to defender Matt Paine but the Fish rallied well and drew level through Guadeloupe-born midfielder Ludovic Quistin in the 35 minutes later.

However, the visiting side were unable to fashion a second goal and were made to pay as Thurrock striker David Bryant popped up in the 57th minute net the winning goal.

Welling 1-1 Maidenhead Utd

Details to follow...

Weston-S-Mare 1-1 St Albans

St Albans City moved up to 13th place in the Blue Square South standings despite being held to a draw by Weston-super-Mare at Woodspring Stadium.

The Seagulls broke the deadlock after 20 minutes through defender Adam Everitt and the home side levelled the scores through on-loan Woking striker Manny Williams on 56 minutes.

After this latest result, Weston-super-Mare also move up in the standings to 15th place with 30 points from 26 fixtures.

Worcester 1-3 Bishop's Stortford

Bishop's Stortford earned themselves some breathing room in the bottom half of the table with a comfortable win against Worcester City at St George's Lane.

Bishops striker Lewis Smith netted the opening goal after 12 minutes and popped up again in the 31st minute to double his side's advantage.

The home side pulled one back through Marco Adaggio in 66th minute before Harlee Deen netted a 75th minute goal to restore his side's two-goal cushion.

Welling United 1-1 Maidenhead United

Welling United failed to break down fellow play-off hopefuls Maidenhead United at Park View Road in a dire encounter on Saturday.

Charlie Sheringham scored the Wings' only goal on 33 minutes as he bundled the ball past Magpies keeper Shane Gore after Jack Parkinson had directed the ball goalwards from a well-taken Lee Blackburn corner.

Welling's defence was caught napping as they allowed Johnson Hippolyte's side to draw level two minutes before the half time break. Richard Pacquette turned home Ashley Smith low cross with not a defender in sight.

The result sees Welling just one place above Maidenhead in fifth but with Andy Ford's side only a point behind and with a game in hand.
