Blue Square North & South Wrap

Both the Blue Square North and Blue Square South were hit heavily by the weather, with eight matches in both called off due to the heavy snow...

Blue Square North

Southport 2-0 Hyde

Steve Daly netted a brace for the second consecutive game to give Southport a 2-0 win over Blue Square North rivals Hyde.

The victory will be even sweeter for the Sandgrounders as promotion rivals Tamworth were beaten by AFC Telford.

Liam Watson's side were dominant from the outset, but it was not until the 36th minute that they went ahead thanks to Daly.

Although Hyde produced a much improved effort in the second half they were unable to make use of their chances and their fate was sealed a minute from time when Daly netted his second.

The result leaves the Tigers stuck in the relegation zone in 20th place with 22 points, while the Sandgrounders are now only three points behind league-leaders Tamworth with two games in hand.

Tamworth 0-1 AFC Telford

AFC Telford managed to upset league-leaders Tamworth 1-0 courtesy of a Danny Carey-Bertram penalty at the Lambs Ground on Saturday.

The game was a closely contested affair with both sides refusing to give an inch and in the end it was a silly foul in the area by the Lambs just before half-time that ultimately gifted their opponents the game.

Both sides had numerous opportunities throughout the match but their failure to convert their opportunities will give their managers reason for concern.

The victory puts Rob Smith's Bucks side firmly back into the play-off places as they only trail the Lambs by three points with both sides having played 25 games.

The loss comes as a massive blow to Gary Mills' Lambs title ambitions as they now only have a one point lead at the top of the Blue Square North.

Bognor Regis Town 2-3 Basingstoke

Basingstoke kept their hopes of survival alive with a superb late comeback against Bognor Regis Town at Nyewood Lane.

After a first half to forget for both sides, Bognor came out in the second half looking like a brand new team.

The hosts stormed their way into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jahson Downes in the 47th minute and Nathan Lynch 20 minutes later.

However, the visitors staged an amazing comeback in the final five minutes of the match to steal the three points from Bognor.

David Tarpey got the ball rolling in the 85th minute with a fine finish before Phil Ruggles equalised two minutes later.

Tarpey was on hand in injury time to seal the remarkable victory and in the process pushing Bognor closer to the relegation trapdoor.

Eastleigh 2-1 Chelmsford

Eastleigh poured more cold water on Chelmsford's title ambitions when they ran out 2-1 victors at the Silverlake Stadium.

The home side showed the greater desire throughout the match and deserved to claim what could prove to be a vital three points.

The Spitfires grabbed the lead on 14 minutes thanks to Anthony Riviere after some impressive passing from the hosts.

Eastleigh doubled their advantage on 68 minutes when Jamie Brown capitilised on some poor defending.

The Clarets were handed a lifeline by Jason Hallett in the 78th minute, but it was a little too late for the visitors as Eastleigh closed up shop and made sure of the win.
