Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

AFC Wimbledon extended their lead at the top of the table with victory over Thurrock, while Hampton & Richmond moved into second with a narrow win against Bath City.

Basingstoke 0 Dorchester 0

Basingstoke and Dorchester played out a dull goalless draw at the Camrose on Saturday in the Blue Square South.

Dragons boss Frank Gray will be disappointed with his side's failure to pick up three points at home after they squandered numerous opportunities.

The result leaves both team's just above the relegation zone with Basingstoke in 18th place on 29 points and the Magpies in 16th place on 33 points.

Bath City 0 Hampton & Richmond 1

A late goal from Francis Quarm was enough to give his side a narrow victory over Bath City at Twerton Park on Saturday.

The game was an evenly contested affair with both sides failing to convert a number of chances in the first-half.

The Beavers enjoyed much of the possession in the second-half and they were finally rewarded for their continued pressure when Quarm fired the ball home to give his side the lead.

The Romans had a few late chances to snatch a point, but it just wasn't going to be their day.

Hampton & Richmond now move into second in the Blue Square South table with 59 points.

The loss will come as a big blow to Adie Britton's side's play-off hopes as they now fall to eighth in the table on 43 points.

Bognor Regis Town 2 Chelmsford 1

Chelmsford have dropped to third place in the Blue Square South table after they crashed to a 2-1 defeat to Bognor Regis Town at Nyewood Lane on Saturday.

The Clarets dominated the opening exchanges and it was no surprise when Ollie Berquez opened the scoring for the visitors in the 36th minute.

But Jeff King's side's lead didn't last for long as they conceded a goal just four minutes later when Jahson Downes netted from inside the area.

The goal seemed to breath life into the home side as they started the second-half strongly and just ten minutes after the interval grabbed the lead through Nathan Lynch.

Chelmsford fought back strongly, but a resilient Rocks defence managed to hold out to pick up a much-needed three points and move off the bottom of the table.

The result leaves the Clarets in third behind Hampton & Richmond on goal difference.

Bromley 2 Newport County 1

Bromley kept their slim hopes of a play-off spot alive when they grabbed a late goal against Dean Holdsworth's Newport County at the Courage Stadium.

The home side took an early lead when Rob Gillman found the back of the net after some slick passing by Mark Goldberg's troops.

Holdsworth must have had some stern words for his side at half-time as they came out in the second period a totally different team and they were rewarded when they won a penalty for a foul in the area.

Danny Rose made no mistake from the spot as he sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.

The game seemed to be playing out to a draw, but the Ravens kept pushing forward and shocked the Exiles when Danny Hall grabbed the winner in stoppage time.

Bromley move up to 11th on 39 points, while Newport slipped to 12th.

Eastleigh 1 Bishop's Stortford 1

Roy Essandoh's late goal ensured his Bishop's Stortford side enjoyed a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Eastleigh at Silverlake Stadium on Saturday.

Eastleigh found themselves 1-0 ahead after just six mintues when Brett Williams smashed the ball into the back of the net.

The Spitfires had an abundance of chances in the game that they were unable to convert which would come back to haunt them when Essandoh equalised after 75 minutes.

The visitors hung on for the point and they now move to move up to 15th in the table on 33 points, while Eastleigh remain in fourth on 57 points.

Fisher Athletic 0 Worcester 1

Fisher Athletic will end the weekend at the bottom of the Blue Square South table after they narrowly lost to Worcester City at Champion Hill.

The Fish put in a brave display in front of a small home crowd and they managed to match their much-fancied rivals for most of the game.

But the Royals had just too much in the tank for their opponents to handle and they broke Sami Muduroglu's heart when Craig scored the winner after 73 minutes.

The hosts had a few late chances to snatch a point, but their efforts proved too little too late as Richard Dryden's side picked up a valuable win.

Worcester are now tenth in the table on 40 points, while Fisher Athletic lie rock-bottom on 14 points.

Hayes & Yeading 2 St Albans 1

Hayes & Yeading moved to within a place of the play-off places with a 2-1 win over St Albans at Church Road on Saturday.

After a first-half that failed to live up to expectations, the game sprung to life when Ram Marwa sent the home fans into a frenzy with a well-taken goal just two minutes before the break.

The visitors reply was instant though as they equalised only two minutes later when Solomon Shields made it 1-1.

However, their joy did not last for long as Matt Ruby put Garry Haylock's side back in front when he struck just three minutes after the break.

Both managers will be ruing their sides missed opportunites in the second half, but Haylock will be the happier of the two bosses as his side held on for the win.

Hayes are now sixth on 46 points, while St Albans are 14th on 34 points.

Maidenhead Utd 0 Team Bath 2

Andy Tilson's Team Bath side picked up three valuable points when they beat Maidenhead United 2-0 at York Road.

Two goals in three minutes was enough to give the Scholars the win and move them up to eighth in the Blue Square South table.

The visitors dominated from start to finish and it was no surprise when Sami El-Abd gave them the lead after 27 minutes.

Things went from bad to worse for the home fans when just two minutes later Mike Perrott made it 2-0.

Although Team Bath took their foot off the gas in the second-half, their defence was untroubled by the poor Maidenhead attack.

The performance will be of some concern to the Magpies boss as they try to stay in the play-off places.

Thurrock 0 AFC Wimbledon 1

A goal five minutes from time was enough to give AFC Wimbledon a 1-0 win over Thurrock and extend their lead at the top of the Blue Square South table.

The game failed to deliver as a spectacle and lowly Thurrock would have been pleased to come away from the fixture with a point.

But their hopes were dashed just five minutes from the end when Sam Hatton found the back of the net to take the Dons one step closer to promotion.

The result means that nine points clear at the top-of-the-table, while Thurrock remain in 20th place on 27 points as they struggle to move out of the relegation zone.

Weston-S-Mare 3 Braintree Town 1

Weston-S-Mare gave their home fans something to shout about when they demolished Braintree Town 3-1 at Woodspring Stadium.

The Seagulls grabbed the advantage after 13 minutes when Jack Compton made it 1-0 after 13 minutes.

Craig Rand doubled his side's lead just five minutes later when he fired home from inside the area to make it 2-0.

Dayle Grubb wrapped up the points for Andy Gurney's side when he netted the third in the 67th minute.

Although Micky Shinn grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors in the 76th minute, it proved too little too late.

Weston-S-Mare move to 17th on 33 points, while drop to 13th on 35 points.
