Tuesday's Blue Square North & South review

Tamworth have moved level on points with leaders Gateshead in the Blue Square North after squeezing past Burscough 1-0 at Victoria Park.

Midfielder Gareth Sheldon's early effort was enough to earn a victory for the Lambs, while the Linnets are now just one point above the relegation zone.

Gary Mills' charges seem to be in good shape as they contest for automatic promotion, with just goal difference keeping them off top spot, while they possess a two-game advantage over the Heed.

Alfreton Town continued their push towards a play-off place by easing past Stafford Rangers 2-0 at Marston Road.

Defender Kyle McFadzean fired the visitors in front after just two minutes and Ian Ross struck from the penalty spot in the second half to ensure maximum points for the Reds.

Town are now in sixth spot, while Stafford lie in 16th place.

Farsley Celtic look to have condemned rock-bottom Hucknall to the dreaded drop after a 2-1 away win.

Midfielders Lee Tuck and Craig Bentham scored in the first half for the visitors, while Laurie Wilson gave the Yellows a false flicker of hope in the 14th minute.

Celtic have now created a cushion between themselves and the bottom three, while Town have only managed 22 points thus far this season.

In the Blue Square South, Darren Edwards' seventh-minute effort was enough to see Bath City overcome mid-table Basingstoke.

The Romans are hoping to claw their way back into the play-off hunt, but are ten points adrift of fifth spot.

At the opposite end of the table, Thurrock were beaten by City's neighbours Team Bath at Ship Lane.

Tom Piotrowski and Matt Smith netted seconds from each other late on to win the tie, but Rob Swaine managed a consolation goal in the 90th minute.

The Fleet remain in third from bottom, but have two games in hand over their fellow strugglers.
