Northwich Victoria enhanced their chances of survival with a hard-fought win against Grays Athletic at Victoria Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The home side dominated ball possession throughout but the winning goal only arrived in second-half injury time.
Crewe-born midfielder Michael Carr netted the solitary goal with a superb finish 20-yard shot into the top-left corner.
Dino Maamria's men now hold a two-goal cushion on the dreaded drop zone while Grays slip down to 13th with 63 points from 41 fixtures.
