Weymouth 1-2 York

Weymouth's relegation from the Blue Square Premier was confirmed on Friday night when they went down 2-1 to York City at the Wessex Stadium.

While the defeat spelt relegation for the Terras, the victory means the Minstermen are now mathematically safe from the drop.

The visitors started the match in fantastic fashion and deserved to take the lead after 14 minutes.

Richard Brodie found the back of the net for the Minstermen, sending the small contingent of visiting fans into raptures.

York continued to dominate for the remainder of the half, but a loss of concentration shortly before the break cost them an equaliser.

Cliff Akurang gave the home support something to smile about when he sent ripples through the net with a matter of seconds left on the clock before the break.

The Terras tried to fight their way back into the match in the second half, but they failed to create many goalscoring opportunities, which ultimately played against them.

The Minstermen capitilised on the home side's profligacy by grabbing a winning goal after 77 minutes.

Adam Boyes found the back of the net to make sure City would not be dropping down a division, while at the same time relegating the Terras.

Weymouth bookings: Gwinnett.

York City bookings: A Smith.

Attendance: 1,122.

Referee: S Creighton.
