Final day Blue Square Premier wrap

Burton Albion were crowned Blue Square Premier champions despite a loss to Torquay on the final day of the season.

Cambridge's failure to beat Altrincham meant that the Brewers could not be caught, while the win for the Gulls also secured their play-off place.

The Brewers looked on course to claim the title comfortably after Marc Goodfellow put them ahead just eight-minutes into the game.

But Torquay had plenty to play for and struck back through Chris Hargreaves ten-minutes later and doubled their lead when Elliot Benyon netted just after half-time.

The Gulls will face Histon in the play-offs after the Stutes drew 3-3 with Crawley to secure their berth in dramatic fashion.

Histon went 3-0 up in the first half thanks to a brace by Jack Midson and a fine goal by Jamie Barker. They looked to be cruising to a win until Danny Naisbitt was sent off early in the second half.

Jamie Cook converted the reslting spot-kick and from there on out it was a case of clinging on for dear life from the Stutes.

Michael Malcolm pulled another goal back fro Crawley before Jon Shaw drew the home side level with nine minutes to play.

Cambridge United had the opportunity to throw a spanner in Burton's works but they succumbed to nerves and were held to a 0-0 draw by Altrincham, meaning that they finish the season a mere two pints off the pace.

They face Stevenage Borough in the play-offs after Phill Wallace's charges lost 2-1 to Mansfield and had to rely on Kidderminster's 1-0 home defeat by Kettering to secure fifth in the table.

Aaron O'Connor's 88th-minute strike secured the points for the home side, after Scott Garner's opener was cancelled out by Borough's Scott Laird.

Woking, Northwich, Weymouth and Lewes were all relegated.
