Lewes 1-1 York City

Martin Foyle's York City wrapped up their season with a 1-1 draw against already relegated Lewes at the Dripping Pan on Sunday afternoon.

Skipper Mark Greaves finally opened the visitors' account with only ten minutes remaining before Joe Keehan equalised seven minutes later.

Foyle selected a near second-choice eleven with the likes of Michael Ingham, David McGurk, Danny Parslow, Levi Mackin, Richard Brodie, Adam Boyes and Daniel McBreen rested ahead of the FA Trophy final in just under a fortnight's time.

But a lacklustre contest in which both sides struggled to really create genuine opportunities on a difficult surface, threatened to offer the visitors a late chance of a fourth successive victory when Greaves bundled home after keeper Rikki Banks had blocked substitute Brodie's 80th minute header.

However, their opponents were back on equal terms with just three minutes remaining after leading scorer Keehan was allowed to head past York's recalled keeper Josh Mimms.

Meanwhile, Foyle has defended his decision to rest a number of key players on Sunday.

He told The Press: "I made lots of changes because I didn't want somebody like Daniel Parslow or David McGurk getting sent off and missing the final, which has happened to Mitchell Cole at Stevenage.

"Dan came to me and asked if he could play, but I said 'Did you see what happened to Phil Jagielka?' He's going to miss the FA Cup final now through injury.

"There was nothing at stake and I want my captain there at Wembley. He is proud of playing in every game and records are all good and well, but medals aren't given out for completing every minute of the season."

However, Foyle was also keen to point out that the players rested on the weekend will not necessarily be automatic inclusions in the starting line-up at Wembley.

He added: "Those nine are not definite starters at Wembley. We will study Stevenage over the next few days and select a team designed to beat them, not one full of players who deserve a place because they've done all right over the season."

Lewes bookings: Wheeler (71).

York bookings: None.
