Wrexham 2-0 Weymouth

Wrexham ended a four-match losing streak with a hard-fought victory over already-relegated Weymouth at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Despite already having their relegation confirmed on Friday evening, the Terras produced a gritty performance against Dean Saunders' side.

They were only let down by a lack of cutting edge in front of goal as they created enough chances to at least draw level with their opponents.

The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock in the seventh minute but Ashley Westwood headed over from Jamie McCluskey's corner.

Sam Williamson's shot was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Adam Legzdins at the other end of the pitch three minutes later and Weymouth striker Cliff Akurang was denied by Chris Maxwell in the 14th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken in 29th minute when John Curtis headed on from Jamie McCluskey's corner and Michael Proctor hooked the ball into the top-right corner from close range.

Proctor should have doubled his tally just two minutes later but fired wide of the left-hand post from inside the box.

However, his missed chance didn't cost Wrexham as they doubled their tally in the 33rd minute thanks to a close-range finish from Ryan Flynn.

Weymouth's Fola Onibuje had a penalty appeal turned down in the 39th minute after appearing to be brought down by Wrexham defender Darren Kempson in the penalty area.

The Terras struggled to make their possession count after the break and almost fell further behind in the 72nd minute but Legzdins produced a brilliant reaction save to deny Proctor's close-range header.

Wrexham bookings: Aiston.

Weymouth bookings: Browning.
