Wrexham 1-1 Altrincham

Ten-man Wrexham and Altrincham could not be separated as their mid-table battle ended in a 1-1 draw at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night.

The encounter, however, was tainted by the horror injury sustained by Tom Kearney, which left him with a double leg break and Wrexham's Frank Sinclair with a suspension to follow.

Altrincham had a glorious chance to take the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but Chris Senior failed to convert after being fouled by Silvio Spann in the area.

The home side then opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Andy Mangan put the ball on a plate for Wes Baynes, who made no mistake from close range.

On the stroke of half time the horror injury took place which resulted in Kearney having to be stretchered from the pitch and Sinclair sent for an early shower.

Looking to get something from the match in honour of Kearney, the visitors fought back in the second period but had to wait until the final ten minutes for their reward.

After winning a corner in the 82nd minute, Peter Doran whipped the ball in and it was met by a powerful header by Greg Strong which sent ripples through the net.

The share of the spoils keeps the two side firmly rooted in mid-table, with just a solitary point separating the two.

Wrexham bookings: Mangan, Taylor

Sent off: Sinclair

Altrincham bookings: Lawton, Danylyk, Williams, Doran, Brown

Attendance: 2,114

Referee: Stephen Martin
