Rushden & Diamonds 8-0 Gateshead

Rushden and Diamonds took a step closer to the play-offs with 8-0 demolition job of Gateshead on Saturday.

A brace by Jefferson Louis and goals from Jamie Stuart, Max Porter, Mark Byrne, Lee Tomlin, Craig Farrell and Simon Downer gave Diamonds a convincing victory.

Jamie Stuart opened the scoring early on when he headed home Mark Byrne's corner after just five minutes as the home side dominated from start to finish.

It was a long wait for the second goal which came in the 43rd minute when a flick-on by Tomlin found Porter who made no mistake to make it 2-0.

Louis scored his first of the game just after the re-start when he latched onto a Tomlin cross from the left and drilled the ball home.

Louis then turned provider as he played Byrne through on goal and he slotted the ball past the keeper to make it four.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Tomlin drove the ball into the back of the net a few minutes later.

Louis netted his second and Rushden's sixth when he headed home substitute Farrell's cross from the right-flank with 10 minutes to play.

Farrell got his name on the scoresheet shortly thereafter with a well-taken finish before Simon Downer scored to wrap up a remarkable 8-0 win for Diamonds.
