Oxford United failed to go back to the summit of the Blue Square Premier table after they drew 1-1 with Kettering at Kassam Stadium on Tuesday.
Franny Green gave the Yellows the lead before James Dance equalised to give his side a point.
In a tightly-contested encounter neither side was willing to give an inch, but the Yellows probably had the better of the play in the first period and they took the lead in the 36th minute when Green pounced on a Sam Deering flick-on to make it 1-0.
But their joy was short-lived as the Poppies took advantage of some poor defending from a Marcus Kelly corner just a few minutes later when an unmarked Dance headed home to level things up.
The highlight of a scrappy second-half came with when a confrontation between Chris Wilder and Mickey Lewis ensued when John Grant had looked like using his elbow which left John Dempster floored.
It was hardly surprising then that at the final whistle the Poppies had amassed six yellow cards in the tough-fought encounter.
Oxford Utd bookings: Wright.
Kettering bookings: Taylor, Hadfield, Dempster, Roper, Boucaud, Marna.
