Craddock the difference

Luton 1-0 Wrexham

Luton Town had former Dragon Tom Craddock to thank as they hung-on for victory against a spirited Wrexham at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters were in total control throughout the first half and would have perhaps been disappointed to be only one goal to the good at the break. Former Wrexham striker Tom Craddock came back to haunt his former club as he fetched his 13th goal of the season with a wonderful left-footed strike.

Collecting the ball on the halfway line Craddock beat a couple of players before driving into the box to fire a stinging shot which the Dragons stopper Sam Russell could only parry into the corner of his net.

A much more determined Wrexham came out after the break and had the Hatters goal under some serious pressure towards the end of the game. Mark Tyler in the home goal was able to stop Wes Baynes amd Andy Mangan while it was just the woodwork which thwarted Andy Fleming's great strike late on.

Luton however were able to weather the storm and held on to what was their first home clean sheet since September. The win takes them closer to the top two and a run at the title is not altogether impossible. Dragons boss Dean Saunders meanwhile conceded that the chance for an immediate return to the football league is now gone with his side sitting 16 points from a play-off place.

Luton bookings: Asafu-Adjaye, Keane.

Wrexham bookings: Smith, Westwood.
