Cambridge 3-1 Salisbury

Cambridge fought back from a goal down to beat Salisbury 3-1 in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday night.

Matt Tubbs opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a spectacular lob but the home side took the lead before half time as Josh Coulson and Antonio Murray both found the back of the net. Scott Neilson then made the points safe with his effort 16 minutes before time.

Salisbury dominated the opening exchanges but few could have expected Tubbs to open the scoring in such emphatic fashion. The striker saw Simon Brown off his line and placed the ball perfectly over his head from 40 yards.

And with Cambridge struggling to keep hold of the ball, it looked like Salisbury might end the U's six match unbeaten run.

But the home side responded well and Coulson found an equaliser in the 23rd minute. Whites keeper James Bittner could only parry David Partridge's header into the path of the goalscorer, who slotted home cooly.

Murray then attempted to better Tubbs' opener as he hit a left-foot volley over Bittner into the net from just outside the box on 32 minutes.

It was a much-improved Cambridge in the second half and Neilson came close with a fierce drive that came back off the underside of the crossbar.

Salisbury were not with out their chances though and Chris Flood produced a carbon copy of Neilson's shot as he too hit the woodwork.

It was Neilson though, who had the final say as he reached a knock-down from Lee Phillips before smashing the ball home.

Salisbury refused to give up and Stuart Anderson, Bradley Gray and Ben Adelsbury all had chances to score but each in turn was thwarted by a resolute Cambridge defence.
