Hayes & Yeading 0-1 Wrexham

Hayes & Yeading signed off the 2009-10 season with a disappointing defeat at Church Road on Saturday.

It was a different matter for the away team as Wes Baynes' decisive goal saw Dean Saunders' Wrexham chalk up a morale-boosting victory to finish 11th in the Blue Square Premier.

The visitors took control of the match early on and Kristian O'Leary came close to breaking the deadlock after cutting in from the wing and shooting.

His effort was always rising, however, and the home team could breathe a sigh of relief.

But their luck ran out on the 24-minute mark following a howler from United goalkeeper Clark Masters whose clearance went straight to Baynes.

The Dragons player reacted quickly and hit a low shot goalwards and despite defender Tom Cadmore's best efforts, the ball found the back of the net to give Saunders' men the lead.

The visitors continued to enjoy the best of the chances after going ahead.

Masters atoned for his earlier error by making a sharp save from Dragons midfielder Kristian O'Leary's header while Baynes struck a long-range effort over the crossbar a few minutes later.

After the break Garry Haylock's side enjoyed long spells of possession yet were unable to make inroads through the opposition's defence.

Andy Mangan and debutant Declan Walker had chances to increase Wrexham's lead late on in the second half but neither were able to convert the chances that fell their way.
