Gateshead 0 - 2 Kettering

First-half goals from Darren Wrack and Kwesi Appiah was enough to give Kettering Town a 2-0 win at Gateshead International on Tuesday evening.

The Heed had the better start to the game and they almost grabbed the advantage when Graeme Armstrong's shot was denied only by the crossbar.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 19th minute through Appiah, who is on loan from Peterborough United, as the 19-year-old was played through on goal by Jean-Paul Marna and cooly slotted the ball home.

Gateshead stopper Paul Farman then made two good saves from Marna to keep his side in the tie.

But the Poppies did find the back of the net again five minutes before the break when they doubled their advantage through Wrack.

Wrack managed to get in behind the Heed defence and after a fine run he unleashed a shot which went in off the post.

Graeme Armstrong, Phil Turnbull and James Sinclair all came close to pulling a goal back for the hosts just before the interval, but with all of them failing to score, Gateshead probably knew that it wasn't going to be their night.

The second-half proved to be somewhat of a dull affair as the Poppies chose to sit on their lead and hold on for the win and the three points.
