Hayes & Yeading 3-2 Gateshead

Hayes & Yeading picked up a much-needed win as they came from behind to beat lowly Gateshead 3-2 at Church Road in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday.

Justin Cochrane opened the scoring for the home side before a brace from Daryl Clarke gave the visitors the advantage, but second-half strikes from James Mulley and Steve Basham secured the three points for Garry Haylock's men.

Cochrane gave the small home crowd something to shout about on the half-hour-mark when he blasted home a fantastic strike from 25 yards out.

But it wasn't long before the Heed were back on level terms as Daryl Clarke netted from the spot after his side were awarded a penalty when Matt Ruby was adjudged to have brought down Brian Wake in the area.

Clarke then scored his second of the evening a minute before the break when he rose to head home Paul Heckingbottom's free-kick.

This seemed to spring Haylock's charges into life as they dominated the second period and it was no surprise when Mulley found the back of the net from right in front just after the hour-mark.

Basham then completed the comeback when he made no mistake with a penalty after Dale Binns was brought down in the Gateshead box.

Hayes & Yeading Bookings: Ruby, Binns.

Gateshead bookings: McDermott, Williams.

Att: 296.

Ref: Stuart Burt (Northamptonshire).
