Gateshead 3-1 Forest Green

Gateshead bounced back from their humiliation over the weekend by beating fellow relegation-strugglers Forest Green Rovers 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The Heed showed great character in bouncing back from the 8-0 defeat to Rushden & Diamonds, picking up three valuable points.

The home side started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead in the tenth minute.

Forward Graeme Armstrong scored with a fine volley to lift some of the gloom hanging over the Gateshead International Stadium.

The goal seemed to wake the visitors, creating a very open game, with end-to-end football the flavour of the evening.

As a result, Rovers managed to pull level in the 39th minute thanks to a neat finish from Daniel Powell.

All of Rovers' hard work to draw level meant nothing three minutes later, however, as Ian Bogie's charges took the lead for the second time in the match.

Peter Winn tried his luck from some way out and it paid off as Danny Ireland was left with no chance in the Rovers goal.

Both sides pushed forward in search of goals in the second period but there was no luck on Forest Green's part as Gateshead sealed the points with ten minutes to go.

Brian Wake made sure of the points with a cracking finish, again leaving Ireland with no chance and Rovers staring down the barrel of relegation.
