Webb explains Bridgwater departure

King's Lynn manager Keith Webb reveals his distress after deciding to release midfielder David Bridgwater.

The Blue Square North club boss released Bridgwater after Lynn's midweek goalless draw at Stafford Rangers which saw Rushden & Diamonds' loan signing Scott Mitchell make his debut.

And it is the signing of 27-year-old Mitchell, from former Southern Premier rivals Bromsgrove that sealed Bridgwater's fate.

Webb told the Eastern Daily Press: "It was very, very tough - the hardest decision since I've been at the club.

"He hasn't really done anything wrong in his time here. He is a good passer of the ball but I'm just striving to find that balance. I just felt after the Stalybridge game we needed a little bit more pace in the middle of the park. We brought in Scott and when I named the team at Stafford I could see Bridgy was very disappointed to be left out."

Bridgwater made six appearances for the club but was omitted from Webb's match day squad at Stafford.

"I couldn't justify bringing him from the other side of Birmingham to maybe be on the bench or not even in the squad. He's been traveling the length and breadth with us but maybe he is better getting a club more local.

"Obviously there was also the issue of balancing the books. We are constantly looking at the squad. I never stop reviewing it but I believe what we have here is good enough to do the job I want going forward. That isn't to say if we find players who can improve we will look at the situation."
