Nathan Elder: gave Don's the lead
AFC Wimbledon came out firing as they scored twice in the opening ten minutes to see off Forest Green at Kingsmeadow.
After having an earlier effort cleared off the line, Nathan Elder was able to head the Dons into an early lead on eight minutes. The goal was created after a great through ball from Sam Hutton found Will Hendry on the run. Hendry then crossed for Elder to nod home.
The second came shortly afterwards, Ricky Wellard breaking through midfield before timing his pass to perfection to set up Hendry who slotted home impressively from the edge of the area. Wimbledon continued to dominated the early stages with Lewis Taylor hitting the post.
But the Dons seemed to lose their rhythm after Brett Johnson had to go off injured in the 25th minute. The defender returned ten minutes later having received stitches to a head wound but even with his return the home side was unable to regain their early momentum.
Isaiah Rankin put Reece Styche clean through on goal for the visitors' best chance of the half, but the striker was unable to finish as he lifted the ball over onrushing keeper James Pullen and also over the crossbar.
The second 45 minutes proved a more even affair. Forest Green were able to break down AFC Wimbledon's play but rarely looked like scoring themselves in what was a stop-start second period.
Rover's best chance came when Jonathan Smith fluffed a shot from six yards with keeper Pullen making the save.
The game petered out as the Don's finished worthy winners.

"AFC2 - FGR0 (and Atkin Minus 10)"

"The Match was hindered severely by the Referee Mr Warren Atkin who single handedly managed to disrupt and spoil what would otherwise have been a watch-able game. I realize this comment will probably not be posted due to it's criticism of a referee (which the above report totally ignores) but I wouldn't mind betting that FGR supporters are of the same opinion. Lets hope both teams don't get saddled with these inept officials in the future. "
