Danny Kedwell

Eastbourne 2-3 AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon moved to the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier standings on Saturday with a dramatic victory at Priory Lane thanks to Danny Kedwell's late winner.

Kedwell and Lee Minshull both struck to give the Dons a 2-0 lead after 55 minutes but Simon Weatherstone and Andy Atkin found the net to restore parity by the 78th minute.

The Sports took control early in the match and Seb Brown had to make a deft save to deny Weatherstone's low shot.

Yet it was the Wombles who drew first blood on the half hour when Kedwell's long-range shot bounced past goalkeeper Rikki Banks.

Neither side managed another breakthrough by the interval, but soon after the match's resumption the visitors twice hit the woodwork - both Minshull and Steven Gregory denied by the goal frame.

The Londoners did finally double their advantage ten minutes into the second half when Luke Moore set up Minshull's headed goal.

But Borough rallied and pulled one back in the 69th minute, Weatherstone's free-kick from 25 yards getting the better of Brown in the Dons goal.

Remarkably, Garry Wilson's outfit levelled matters with a dozen minutes left on the clock. This time Weatherstone turned provider for Atkin, who nodded the ball in at the back post.

But the climax to the contest was thrilling as Sam Hatton fed Kedwell, who went past Banks to slide in the winner in a memorable five-goal thriller.

The result sees Borough drop to ninth in the standings while Wimbledon pull out a two-point lead at the summit.

Eastbourne bookings: Weatherstone, Langston, Matt Crabb.
