Luton Town 2-1 Gateshead

Luton Town moved to the top of the Blue Square Premier table after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Gateshead at Kenilworth Road.

Michael Mackay put the visitors ahead, but two goals in as many minutes by Asa Hall and Kevin Gallen made sure that the visitors walked away with the three points.

The Tynesiders defence looked shaky early on and Rossi Jarvis looked to capitilise in the second minute, however, his shot sailed harmlessly over the bar.

The visitors then made Luton pay when they took the lead just two minutes later when Wayne Phillips' played MacKay through on goal and the hitman made no mistake slotting the ball past Hatters stopper Mark Tyler.

The goal seemed to give Gateshead the confidence they needed as they dominated the early exchanges threatening the Luton goal on a number of occasions.

But Luton showed why they will be a force to be reckoned with this term as they equalised on 21 minutes when Hall rose to head the ball home after latching on to a Jarvis free-kick.

The home crowd were then sent into a frenzy when the Hatters took the lead a minute later after Tom Craddock found some space in the Heed defence before finding Gallen, who drove the ball into the back of the net.

The visitors put in a brave second-half showing as they tried to claw their way back into the tie, but the Hatters held on for the win and the three points.

Luton bookings: Gnakpa.

Gateshead bookings: Richardson.

Referee: J Adcock (England).
