Luton 0-0 Chester

Chester picked up their first point of the Blue Square Premier season with a goalless draw against Luton at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The Blues had the first real chance of the game in the when Lewis Alessandra had his goal-bound header cleared off the line by Alan White early on.

Chester had another chance to stamp their dominance on the game when Nick Chadwick latched on to a long ball by Chris Lynch in the 31st minute only to have his effort denied by a brilliant save by Mark Tyler.

Chadwick went even closer a few minutes before the break with a diving header that hit the woodwork and the home side would have considered themselves fortunate to have gone into the interval on level terms.

The Hatters put in an improved performance in the second period, but were their attack was unable to penetrate the away side's defence.

Ultimately Chester's failure to convert their chances cost them the three points and Luton boss Mick Harford will be a relieved man to have come away from the tie with a point.

Luton bookings: White.

Chester bookings: Wilkinson, Lynch
