Kettering 0-0 Luton Town

Luton Town picked up just one point for their troubles on Saturday afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by Kettering Town at Rockingham Road.

Poppies keeper Lee Harper and an obstinate defence ensured that Mark Cooper's men held the Hatters at bay in a closely contested affair.

The first real chance of the game fell to the hosts after three minutes but Damian Spencer saw his goalbound header blocked by Luton defender George Pilkington.

Andy Burgess and Tom Craddock both had chances to open the scoring for Luton but the former volleyed wide, while the latter saw his effort saved by Harper.

Luton goalkeeper Mark Tyler was kept busy for the remainder of the first period as the Poppies went on to create the better of the chances.

Kettering's Ian Roper saw his 35th minute header cleared off the line by Alan White before Tyler denied Andre Boucaud's 25-yard effort.

The Hatters came flying out of the starting blocks after the break and they should have claimed their lead three minutes into the half, but Tom Craddock somehow contrived to miss the target from just six yards out.

Chances were few and far between after that incident as Luton struggled to break down Kettering's defence.

Luton were appealing for a penalty 14 minutes from time when Kettering defender Ian Roper appeared to deflect the ball with his arm but the referee waived play on.

And it looked like it wasn't meant to be for Harford's men as Kettering frustrated their opponents to claim a share of the spoils.

Kettering bookings: Dempster, Fowler.

Luton bookings: Murray.

Ref: David Coote.
