Kenilworth Road
Kettering Town got back to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night.
The Poppies have suffered since the departure of manager Mark Cooper but Wednesday's victory will have gone a long way in boosting their confidence.
After some heavy rain in the area, the Kenilworth Road pitch was heavy in areas, making it difficult for the players to get into any sort of passing rhythm in the opening stages.
However, the visitors adapted better to the conditions and showed a confidence which had been lacking in recent weeks.
The Poppies deservedly took the lead after 64 minutes when loanee Ritchie Partridge hit an unstoppable shot at goal which curled into the back of the net.
While the visiting side had control of the fixture, they nearly threw away two points late on when Lee Harper was forced into a save from Claude Gnakpa, with the ball hitting the bar and then falling away from danger.
That was the only real scare for the Poppies as they managed to hang on for what could prove to be an important victory come the end of the campaign.
Kettering move back into fourth place with the win, while Luton remain in eighth with 36 points.
