Luton Town 3-1 Kidderminster

Luton Town strengthened their position in the play-off places with a 3-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday night.

The victory also pushed the Hatters to within a point of second-placed Oxford United, although they have played two games more than the U's.

The home side were looking to build on three successive victories in the league and they started in a positive mood, which showed they were hungry for the three points.

Scott Howells put smiles on the Kenilworth Road faithful's faces when he sent ripples through the net in the 23rd minute after some great play from the hosts.

Kevin Gallen then doubled the Hatters' advantage seven minutes later with a strike from the edge of the penalty area.

The Harriers picked themselves up after conceding the second and managed to halve the deficit in the 32nd minute.

James Lawrie made it 2-1 with a goal from just outside the Luton penalty area.

At this point in the match the away side were starting to find their feet, with Lee Baker and Jack Byrne both going close.

However, Gallen secured a big three points for the home side when he completed his brace in the 57th minute with a clever finish.

Robbie Matthews had two chances to pull his side back into the game but Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler was in fine form to deny him that opportunity.

The Hatters now find themselves in third place with 67 points, while the Harriers are stuck in mid-table with 48 points.
